That specificity is worth paying attention to on its own terms — not as a verdict on the gearbox, but as a kind of fingerprint, visible only in the moment someone else's hand tries to fit where yours used to. I haven't found a documented case study on this particular pattern — driver-specific shift-timing familiarity, as distinct from general mechanical wear — in the material reviewed for this piece.

Among the frameworks reviewed for this article, none addressed how long that familiarity takes to build, or whether it fades once a car changes hands for good. What's clearer is the shape of the thing itself: a well-worn gearbox isn't really a machine that got better with age.
